PTEM – Logo design for Failure Analysis Lab
Overview
PTEM (Precision TEM) is a cutting-edge Failure Analysis Laboratory specializing in Transmission Electron Microscopy. Their expertise allows them to visualize manufacturing defects at the atomic level, providing critical insights for high-tech industries. The challenge was to create a brand identity system that communicates this extreme level of technical precision while maintaining a modern, professional, and trustworthy aesthetic.

The Concept: Precision Meets Geometry
The visual direction for PTEM is rooted in the core of their work: the study of atomic structures. I developed a clean and geometric visual language inspired by the Bauhaus movement—prioritizing structure, clarity, and functional beauty.
The primary mark is built around the “Focus Atom” and “Electron Beam” concepts. By using a strict geometric grid, the logo reflects the accuracy required in failure analysis, where even a microscopic deviation matters. The typography was carefully selected to feel grounded and sun-drenched yet clinical, ensuring legibility across both digital interfaces and physical laboratory environments.
The Solution
I delivered a comprehensive visual identity that works seamlessly across all touchpoints. The system includes a versatile primary logo, a simplified icon for small-scale applications, and a robust set of brand guidelines to ensure consistency as the lab grows.
Key Deliverables:
-
Brand Identity & Strategy: Defining the visual tone for a high-tech scientific niche.
-
Logo Design: Primary, secondary, and shortened versions for various use cases.
-
Iconography: Custom-built assets reflecting electron beams and atomic focus.
-
Brand Guidelines: A detailed manual covering typography, color palette, and asset usage.
Result
The final identity positions PTEM as a leader in the scientific sector—a brand that feels as precise, innovative, and sophisticated as the technology they use.
